consequences, promote identification of reasons for the increased prevalence of
asthma, promote study of the association between asthma and the environment,
reduce asthma morbidity and mortality, improve management of asthma, and improve
availability and accessibility of effective asthma therapy.
The National Asthma Education
and Prevention Program (NAEPP)
Initiated in March 1989 to address the growing problem of asthma in the United
States. The NAEPP is administered and coordinated by the National Heart, Lung,
and Blood Institute (NHLBI). TheNAEPP works with intermediaries including major
medial associations, voluntary health organizations, and community programs to
education patients, health professionals, and the public. The ultimate goal of
the NAEPP is to enhance the quality of life for patents with asthma and decrease
asthma-related morbidity and mortality.
