Department of Children and Families (DCF)
The Department of Children and Families is the
Massachusetts state agency charged with the responsibility of protecting
children from child abuse and neglect.

Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MCDHH )
The Massachusetts Commission
for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is the principal contact point for MA residents
of all ages who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Among the special services provided
are: statewide interpreter referral service, specialized bilingual case
management and advocacy services, independent living training services, and peer
support referrals. Serving in an advocacy capacity, the agency helps people get
the services they need and assists agencies in making services communication
accessible.

Massachusetts Commission for the Blind
The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) provides the highest quality
rehabilitation and social services to blind individuals, leading to independence
and full community participation. MCB accomplishes this critical mission by
working in partnership with legally blind consumer, families, community
agencies, health care providers and employers.

Refugee and Immigrant Health Program
The mandate of the Refugee and Immigrant
Health Program is to control communicable diseases among refugees and newly
arrived immigrants and to improve the general health status of the State’s
refugee populations.

Department of Developmental Services (DDS)
Formerly known as Department of Mental
Retardation. This Department is dedicated to creating, in partnership with
others, innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual
disabilities to participate fully and meaningfully in, and contribute to, their
communities as valued members.

Department of Mental Health
The Department of Mental Health, as the State Mental Health Authority,
assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health
needs of individuals of all ages, enabling them to live, work and participate in

communities. The Department establishes standards to ensure effective and
culturally competent care to promote recovery. The Department sets policy,
promotes self-determination, protects human rights and supports mental health
training and research. This critical mission is accomplished by working in
partnership with other state agencies, individuals, families, providers and
communities.

Office of HIV/AIDS MDPH
Office of HIV/AIDS has provided a variety of services throughout the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Currently services range from prevention and
education to HIV antibody counseling and testing, client services, health and
support services. Through partnerships with community-based agencies, that
emphasize commitment to the importance of multicultural health, the Office is
able to maximize the public’s access to services that significantly improve the
quality of life for people with HIV and AIDS and their families.

Mission of the Injury Prevention and Control
Program (IPCP) is to reduce the rates of injuries at home, at school, in the
community, on the road, and at play, and to improve emergency medical services
for children.

Bureau of Environmental Health
The Bureau of Environmental Health (BEH) has a broad mission of protecting
the public health from a variety of environmental exposures. The BEH responds to
environmental health concerns and provides communities with epidemiologic and
toxicological health assessments.

Bureau of Family Health and Nutrition
The Nutrition Division programs help to ensure
that all families have the healthy foods they need, and the knowledge, resources
and the care necessary to live a healthy life.

Massachusetts Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program
Mission is to reduce the health and economic
burden of tobacco use by: preventing young people from starting to smoke,
helping current smokers to quit, protecting children and adults from secondhand
smoke, and identifying and eliminating tobacco-related disparities.

Organ Transplant Services (OTS)
The Office of Organ Transplant Services
develops health policies regarding organ transplant issues; serves as a liaison
to donation agencies; and administers the Organ Transplant Fund, which receives
contributions through Massachusetts Income Tax Returns. The Organ Transplant
Fund was established to assist residents of the Commonwealth with the costs of
medically approved transplants.
